Scrape, in association with Open Space for Arts & Community, presents three incarnations
of a very special event. The adventurous 16-piece string orchestra with harp, known
for performing the music of inimitable composers Eyvind Kang and Jim Knapp, will
 be joined by guitar legend Bill Frisell for shows in Seattle and Vashon Island.


These concerts will feature new compositions for string orchestra by Frisell. Known
internationally as one of the foremost jazz guitarists alive today, Frisell's work
as a composer is not usually heard in this context. Scrape will perform 4 suites
 from his recent Sign of Life and Kaddish


series, in addition to featuring him as guest soloist in compositions by Kang and
Knapp.

Douglas Detrick, an Oregonian working in the New York music scene, brings together
a jazz quartet of old and new friends to play music inspired by the many channels
of the American folk tradition.
Douglas Detrick - trumpet, voice, compositions/arrangements
Bill Marsh - guitar
Keith Lowe - bass
Paul Kikuchi - drums
With a serious background, and growing list of awards, in jazz and classical composition,
trumpeter Douglas Detrick has always been searching for an immediate and plain-spoken
mode of expression. When he began learning some of the folk music of the United 
States, including the blues, Appalachian ballads and gospel from the North and South,
it led him start playing these songs with jazz bands, to singing them himself, and
finally to writing his own songs.
Detrick last appeared in Seattle with his improvising chamber group, Douglas Detrick's
AnyWhen Ensemble at the Is That Jazz? Festival, curated by Tom Baker. AnyWhen Ensemble
sounds as much like a chamber ensemble as it does a jazz band, and his Cartography
Quartet
extends this mission by blending the blues, gospel and folk music with jazz to create
an innovative personal style that is grounded in tradition.

FIGEATER conFIGuration POWER FIG  with Fleenor on clarinets/voice/electronics with
Jeff Huston (guitar),  Paul Kemmish (bass) & Tom Zgonc (drums) will be seen at the
beginning of the month, with a guitarless trio conFIGuration at the later show.
