Attention Outraged Citizens, Universal Beings, and Dearest of Dearest
Friends,
Bling + Figeater = Blingeater?
On this the 22nd day of August, I cordially invite you to join me in
a grand experiment.
My projects most often consist of improvised music, and because of
this I rarely bill two of my projects together….
However! Tomorrow evening, August 23 at 8 PM, that will
change…..forever….
I am in love with these two ensembles and decided to celebrate my
excitement with a performance featuring both of them back to back.
This is a real challenge for me, to perform completely
improvisational material, with small groups, in radically different
settings for almost 2 hours, but I wanted to see what it was like and
where I truly am as a performer/spontaneous composer.
Bling and Figeater are both projects that honor on the environment as
the completing member of the ensemble – that means your presence is
desperately needed at this event! And this is only Figeater’s second
performance! I hope you will join me for this little experiment.
The Skinny:
Bling + Figeater = Blingeater?
Thursday, August 23 / 8 PM
$5 – 15 sliding scale
The Chapel Performance Space / Good Shepherd Center (used to be a
place of reform for wayward girls - how perfect is that?)
4649 Sunnyside Ave.
Don’t care much about sonic experimentation ? well then, I slide
into my 27th birthday next week so you could also view this as an
impromptu birthday party that just happens to have a lot of
improvised clarinet music. (and I hear the faint whispers of ice
cream…….ice cream….)
Be there or be square awesome possums.
XO,

BLING: Screaming silence in a whirling pool of stillness…
Long time collaborators Beth Fleenor, clarinet, and Denney Goodhew,
piano and percussion, join forces to push the boundaries of chamber
music. A
completely improvised, raw, spiritual journey.
Figeater is a new original music project led by Beth Fleenor.
Disjunctive, raucous, soaring, and powerful – Figeater is a
textural, tribal exploration of organic movement. Improvisations are
punctuated, buttoned, and launched by original compositions and
psychedelic dance explosions. Recently described in Earshot Jazz as
“a hypnotic trio of scratchy, electronics-warped guitar, drums, and
Beth. They’re somewhat related to jazz, but just as much to
psychedelic-era rock rave-up, whirling and weird, and quite
enjoyable.” Figeater is Beth Fleenor (clarinet / bass clarinet / beth
boxing / percussion) with Jeff Huston (guitar / electronics), Mike
Hams (percussion).
